Running to Raise Funds for the BSSA

Fundraising news

In May, Daniel Wells will be taking part in the Whitstable 10K Run along with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. Click on the link below to find out why the BSSA is so close to their hearts.

Recently I started running every Saturday morning at the local park run doing a 5K with my father-in-law and brother-in-law in a bid to get fit and keep healthy. We have been doing well and recently have all reached our PB around the track!

Then out of the blue my father in law crazily suggested we take on the 10K run in Whitstable this year!

So here we are, having entered the 10K in May...........

Our team name is 'Runnerfire' and we would like to raise money for the British Sjogrens Syndrome Association.

So here is a little bit about why we chose this charity to support.

This charity is close to all our hearts, as a few years back both my own Mum and my Mother-in-law, (Ian's wife and Paul's Mum) were diagnosed with this syndrome.

Sjogrens syndrome is for those of you who have never heard of it (I hadn't before their diagnoses), an autoimmune rheumatic disease, in which the body's own immune system starts attacking parts of the body instead of fighting infection.

It is the second most common autoimmune disease in the UK. Hard to believe isn't it, when the condition still remains under recognised and frequently under treated. Sjogrens can be a debilitating, distressing, and miserable condition and affects 0.6% of UK adults, and 90% of them are women.

So please if you can spare a little extra cash to help this charity to continue researching, raising the profile of the disease and educating us further. It really would help people like my Mum and mother in law.
