March 2007 - Anyone for tea? BSSA National Tea Week

Everyone enjoys getting together with friends, neighbours and family, and wouldn’t it be great to raise funds for the BSSA at exactly the same time.

The BSSA celebrated its involvement with National Giving Week by holding coffee mornings and afternoon teas during the event in October 2006. They proved to be extremely popular and raised over £1000, so due to this success, we’ decided to do it all over again.

As well as raising money for the BSSA Research and Education Fund, the week raised awareness of Sjögren’s Syndrome itself and even generated a number of new members. Considering the campaign was only advertised through support groups due to time constraints, everyone did a fantastic job in such a short space of time!

The BSSA are asking more members to take part this year by holding a coffee morning or afternoon tea during the week of March 26th to March 30th. It doesn’t have to be anything big, you might just want to ask a couple of neighbours or friends to pop round on a particular day for tea and biscuits in return for a small donation to the charity. But for those of you who might want to arrange a large event, here are a few suggestions as to what you could do:

  1. Ask friends, family and neighbours to ask their friends, family and neighbours to come along.
  2. Hold it in conjunction with a club or meeting you already attend.
  3. Ask the BSSA to advertise your event on the BSSA web site or to send out details to members local to you.
  4. Advertise in your village hall, library or local meeting place. You could even promote your event at your local hospital, opticians, dentists or doctors.

You can raise money by:

  1. Charging a nominal entry fee.
  2. Simply ask for a donation to the BSSA.
  3. Charge a small fee for each drink.
  4. Have a cake stall.
  5. A table top sale or even a bring and buy or raffle.

How can the BSSA help?

If you are holding an event on behalf of the BSSA, we can send you literature on Sjögren’s Syndrome and the charity itself. Please contact the BSSA office on 0121 455 6532 if you need information. The BSSA takes the research into Sjögren’s Syndrome very seriously and monies in this fund go towards paying for the grants the BSSA gives out into the important research into Sjögren’s Syndrome.
By taking part you will be raising awareness in Sjögren's Syndrome and helping the BSSA to invest in its research.

Gift AidYou can help us achieve these aims by becoming a member or making a charitable donation. We offer detailed information on Sjögren's Syndrome and also give general advice and support on how to cope with the various problems associated with the disorder.
